Defensive Tactics for Security, Law Enforcement, and Public Service Workers

Confident Employees ● Public Safety ● Healthy Communities

Because safe business environments and safe community streets go hand in hand

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, 2 million assaults and threats of violence against Americans at work occur annually. Nearly 1,000 workers are murdered and 1.5 million are assaulted in the workplace each year.

Studies by the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that compared to workers in private industries, the rates of workplace violence experienced by security guards is almost 6 times higher,* and that of healthcare workers more than 4 times higher.** Nearly 20 percent of security employee time off reported as a result of workplace violence was caused directly by assaults from health care patients.* According to newly released data from the FBI, there were 57,268 police officers assaulted in the line of duty, and 48 officers feloniously killed in 2009.

UMAA Defensive tactics provides customized training programs for security, law enforcement, and public service workers; as well as self protection classes for the public. Our programs emphasize injury prevention, effective teamwork in a crisis, employee morale, liability cost reduction, and industry standard legal obligations. Employers will benefit from reduced liability costs and greater peace of mind.

We specialize in effective defensive strategies and close quarter control techniques that can be adapted to a variety of situations and/or client needs. Our training methods feature a comprehensive system of weaponless defense, taught through realistic flow drills. These drills enhance learning and retention, muscle memory, reflexes, and ease-of-use. Participants will learn to effectively maintain control, de-escalate volatile situations, and minimize the risk of injury to all involved.

UMAA Defensive Tactics certified instructors are highly skilled martial artists with years of experience in the security industry and in training law enforcement personnel. Current clients of UMAA Defensive Tactics include Paramount Pictures, California Pacific Medical Center, and the California Narcotics Officers' Association.

Weaponless Defense

One of the most commonly needed skills in security and law enforcement is ironically ignored or glossed over in many defensive tactics courses. Over reliance on weapons without adequate empty hands training can lead to excessive and unnecessary violence, and preventable injuries.

Safety in Healthcare

Violence diffusion strategies by themselves are not enough

What happens if a situation escalates?

Are your employees prepared to face physical confrontations?

Universal Martial Arts Academy Defensive Tactics specializes in safety training with the unique concerns of the healthcare industry in mind.

Self Protection Programs

In addition to providing high quality training for professionals, UMAA Defensive Tactics also offers self protection programs for the general public. Our SF training facility features ongoing classes for adults of all backgrounds, women, children, and members of the LGBT community.

Church Safety

Don't let your congregation be caught off guard. Pray together, train together, and be safe!

Places of worship should be safe havens from the conflicts of the outer world, where people come to participate in community and experience divine grace. Unfortunately, violence and crime are increasingly finding their ways into churches, mosques, temples, and other community sanctuaries.
