Founder and Master Instructor Professor James Hundon
Professor Hundon has over 43 years experience in the martial arts. He is the founder of UMAA Defensive Tactics, Universal Martial Arts Academy, and Ju Trap Boxing. He holds 7th Degree Black Belts in Small Circle Jujitsu and Kyohuejitsumae; a second degree Black Belt in Sugar Ryu Jujitsu; black belts in Chinese Kenpo and Kodokan Jujitsu; a Full Instructor in Jeet Kune Do Concepts and FMA under Sigung Paul Vunak; and a Phase One Instructor of Contemporary Jeet Kune Do under Sigung Paul Vunak. Professor Hundon has also studied Capoeira Angola extensively, as well as Shorinji Kenpo and boxing.
Professor Hundon has been training law enforcement officers since the 1970's. He has extensive experience in the security industry, both armed and unarmed. Professor Hundon is a certified Master Defensive Tactics instructor with Force Options Tactical Training Solutions, listed with the International Martial Arts Council of America-Law Enforcement Division; a certified Defensive Tactics Edged Weapons instructor with Progressive Fighting Systems; and a certified Baton Instructor with BSIS.
Instructor and Guest Lecturer Sensei Russell Lee
Sensei Russell W. Lee is certified as a Defensive Tactics Instructor with UMAA Defensive Tactics and Force Options. An Attorney at Law, he has served as a prosecutor with the Department of Justice for the last 29 years. He has prosecuted cases involving the use of excessive force by security professionals, working along side numerous law enforcement personnel from various government agencies. He has represented numerous health care regulatory agencies over the years and is intimately familiar with security and liability issues unique to health care facilities. Sensei Lee has studied martial arts throughout his life. He was awarded blackbelts in Small Circle Jujitsu and Kodenkan Danzan Ryu Jujitsu by Great Grandmaster Wally Jay. He has been a student of Professor James Hundon since 2003.

Instructor Sensei Damon Simmons
Sensei Damon Simmons is certified as a Defensive Tactics Instructor with UMAA Defensive Tactics and Force Options, and is the Senior Instructor at Universal Martial Arts Academy. Sensei Simmons has been a martial arts practitioner since 1988, teaching and demonstrating since 1993. He holds a black belt, with the title of Sihaing, in Wun Hop Kuen Do Kajukenbo; is a Contra Mestre in the Adigun Sipho system of Capoeira Angola under Mestre Terry Baruti, and has been a student of Professor James Hundon since 2005. Sensei Simmons has worked in the security industry and currently works with under served youth and families in Oakland and San Leandro, CA.
Instructor Sensei Toriano Hardin
Sensei Toriano Hardin is a certified Defensive Tactics Instructor with UMAA Defensive Tactics and Force Options, and a Full Instructor at Universal Martial Arts Academy. He has over 15 years experience in the martial arts, with a black belt in Shaolin Kenpo. He has also trained in Doce Pares, Small Circle Jujitsu; Ju Trap Boxing; Eskrima Serrada; Pekiti Tirsia and Chen Tai Chi; and has competed in FMA weapons fighting tournaments. Values important to Sensei Hardin include self-discipline; balance; power; economy of movement; respect for all styles of martial arts; and relating classical fighting styles to more contemporary street fighting principles.

Instructor Dr. Thomas Gregory Quinn, MD
Thomas Gregory Quinn, MD is certified as a Defensive Tactics Instructor with UMAA Defensive Tactics and Force Options, and a Phase 2 Instructor at Universal Martial Arts Academy. He is also the Director of Cardiology, Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, and Director of the Wellness Task Force at Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation; as well as the CEO and co-founder of Medhealth Solutions, specializing in internet based strategies for healthy lifestyle intervention. He lectures regularly on the topic of cardiovascular disease prevention. Dr. Quinn has studied martial arts since childhood, trained in Small Circle Jujitsu under Great Grandmaster Wally Jay since 2002, and Ju Trap Boxing with Professor James Hundon since 2004.
Instructor Beki Light
Beki Light is a certified Defensive Tactics Instructor with UMAA Defensive Tactics and Force Options, and a Full Instructor at Universal Martial Arts Academy. She has trained in Ju Trap Boxing, Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Contemporary Jeet Kune Do, and Eskrima Serrada with Professor Hundon since 2006, and previously in Hapkido. 
Special Guest Instructor Master Kenneth A. Pitts
Master Kenneth Pitts, the founder of Pitts' Martial Arts Academy, has been teaching martial arts for more than 25 years. He holds a 6th degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, a 2nd Dan in Judo, and is a Mestre in Capoeira. Master Pitts is an instructor for the California Narcotics Officers' Association, teaching safety and street survival workshops for law enforcement officers. Master Pitts was a Juvenile Probation Officer in Alameda County for over 15 years; and coordinated martial arts and sports programs for at risk youth in Oakland for 16 years. Currently he teaches martial arts for youth in the Oakland Unified School District. 
Special Guest Instructor Master Ken McCullom
Master Ken McCullum has been employed as a deputy sheriff in Alameda County since 1985. He has taught defensive tactics at the Alameda County Sheriff’s Academy and was the defensive tactics instructor for the Alameda County Judicial Protection Team, of which he was also a member. Sensei McCullum has founded and co-founded various programs including the Men of Iron mentoring program for young men; A.W.A.R.E.-Alert Women Against Rape Encounters; and Kenbo Kickboxing Aerobics. Sensei McCullum holds a third degree black belt in Kajukenbo, and is one of only eight to be recognized as an official black belt under his former instructor by Black Belt Magazine. His name appears in the official Kajukenbo family tree. Articles about Sensei McCullum's accomplishments have appeared in the Oakland Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, and on NBC News.
